Nikon D3100

Hi Moose,
I am VERY new to my camera and I am interested in taking a detailed picture of the moon. I get good pictures but I would like them to be better! Do you have any suggestions? Also I don't know how to change my shutter speed.
I have a Nikon D3100 with the standard lens of 18mm-55mm.

Not a pro here, but I don't think you can get what you are looking for with the lens you are using. I think you need something that can get you to 300mm or 400mm to really get something impressive.

Hi Katrina! To change your shutter speed, the flat dial on the top/right of your camera has to be on "M" manual or "S" shutter speed priority and then you can rotate the "command dial" to change the speed. For pictures of the moon, I am using a 55-300mm lens.
