Image processing time for long exposures

Is there a way to cancel or postpone the processing time for a shot taken with a long exposure time?? For example, if a photography of lightning is exposed for 1 minute, the processing time might be another 2 minutes. During which time a lot of good photographic opportunities are flashing before your very eyes. Thanks.
