Hello all! I'm pretty new to all of this but very excited about my camera and this forum.

Quick (first) question - I bought the D3100 second hand and don't have the software CD that would have been included. Am I missing anything significant?

Not really. The included software for viewing and editing is lumpy at best. You can also download the user manual here - http://support.nikonusa.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/16910/~/user's-manual---d3100---guide-to-digital-photography

As for software for viewing and basic editing, Fastone Image viewer is a great freebie - it also works with raw images.
