whats the best mode to take pictures of my son playing baseball? I can get good pics of him batting, but the bat seems to blur in the photos.

Full Manual mode. I've taken pictures of race cars using f/7.1, 1/1000 exposure (it was a sunny day with clouds moving in/out). Exposure time varied depending on how light/dark it was, but I hung around the 1/1000's second range. Only thing blurry was the "Goodyear" on the race cars' tires, and the cars are going 190+ when I take the pic. So, I think a bat would not be blurred. Adjust the settings accordingly if it is too bright or dark when you take the shot.

I agree with tc2010. If this doesn't work, you may need to increase your ISO speed. This also depends on how bright of a day it is, usually it's easier during noon versus night.
