Best zoom lens on a budget

Hey Moose, I'm going to Las Vegas this summer. I have the Canon T2i with the 18-55mm kit lens. I plan on getting the "nifty fifty" as I had seen you suggest to someone else. What else would be a good lens to get great shots of Las Vegas strip and downtown at night? I have a family member who we will be staying with who lives approx 3 miles from the strip and has a great veiw of the strip, so I'm wondering what would be the best zoom lens on a budget?
