Hi Disney, You can take RAW pictures even in auto mode, however the camera controls everything. Try starting out with P mode or even CA (creative auto) as these options give you some control over your pictures. Taking pictures in RAW format does not improve your photography skills, it only enables you to improve your computer skills with post processing. Give me a good picture straight out of the camera rather than one that has been post processed any day of the week. Ansell Adams produced some excellent photos using only a basic camera loaded with film to prove his point that the 12 inches behind the camera are the most important.
