how to turn off the information display on the LCD

Hello All,

When I turn on the camera, the LCD display shows Auto, 1/60 etc. I am not able to see the objects. How do I turn off this display? I tried the guide and I was able to see it by selecting "use live view". I think what I'm looking for is how to set live view all the time. Please help.

    You can see the subject through the viewfinder, but if you don't like that, and you want to use the camera like a point-and-shoot camera, flick the lever to the the right of the LCD screen to enter Live View (which is described on page 37 of the main manual).
