Nikon 55mm - 300mm vr1 sweet spot focusing

Hi moose I'm just a keen photogragher from the U.K. and I own a Nikon D5100, which is my first DSLR. With my zoom lenses I photograph birds and wildlife when they bother to stay still long enough or close enough to me. What I would like help with is finding the sharpest focal point on the lense. Any help much appreciated thanks - makk.
