@Moose I am a newbie and I've had my camera Rebel T2i for a while but I've just decided to start using it more. I am looking for a good lens, preferably a wide angle lens, that I can get the most use out of. To be more specific, I will mostly point and click, but I want something that will still offer sharp clear photos. I was recently in Washington DC and wanted to get a pic of my husband with the Washington Monument in the background and could not figure out how to get the pic of my husband and the entire monument in the background. I think I had the 55-250mm lens. When I bought the camera it came with 2 lenses.

I have 2 other lenses besides my loved nifty2fifty also.
I have the Canon 50mm f/1.4 and the Canon efs- 15-85mm. All three lenses cover anything I need from low light, wide, to tele, but the 15-85mm normally stays on my camera from sun up to sun down, then the 50mm f/1.4 goes on.
