The Canon RC-6 is a pretty good remote, but it is directional. You will have to be in view of the IR eye to release the shutter.
The radio controlled remotes, however, don't have this handicap and they have longer range. The cost is just a few dollars more and for the differences in abilities thats a low hurdle.
I have sat in my recliner and taken pictures of hummingbirds on a feeder through a double paned slider. Impossible with the RC-6.

If you're looking to do self-portraits and product shots, the RC-6 (see here) is a good option.
If you're looking to do long exposures, I like wired the RS-60E3 (see here) as it doesn't require batteries and provides an instantaneous response.
There are also some third party radio controlled remotes (like @fotodude mentioned), that allow you to control the T2i from a distance.
