off camera flash...

Hi, I was hoping somebody might help me regarding off camera flash with the Rebel t2i 550d... I am a beginner wanting to get into off camera flash but some people say this can't be done with the T2i and others say that you can... Can some please with proper knowledge please advise me which it is...? Regards
