Turning off flash

I am going to be shooting inside a chapel. It is prohibited to use flash. I saw the trick with pressing the "i" button but I want to shoot manually. Is there another solution?

The flash will not pop up automatically when you use P,S,A or M modes. You can still manually operate it but it will otherwise stay down.

It will operate automatically in Auto, and most of the special modes, except for Sports and Scenery. It will also shut off in the Auto/no flash mode (next to the green Auto, with the no-flash symbol).
