Remote shutter

I bought a remote shutter, ML-L3 for my Nikon D5100 however,when I used it,it wont shoot photos. I already changed to Quick Shutter but it wont shoot,but if I click the remote,there is a faint click that my camera makes. Any ideas on how to deal with it?

Is your camera set to focus priority? If so, it might be failing to focus. Try going to manual focus and see if it fires then.

If you're hearing a click it suggests that there's no actual problem in receiving the signal, but you should also make sure that the standby time is not expiring. In the menu you can select how long the camera waits before it reverts to regular shutter. The default is only a minute.
