My camera is possessed

Hi. Last night I changed my battery in the camera I've had for nearly 10 years! It suddenly started shooting continuesly. Every time I switched settings it would start over. It won't show me the menu screen to see if it was put on a timer or something.
I've taken out the battery and memory card several times and replaced them but the camera just keeps taking pictures.
How can I make this stop?

I'm just guessing here, but it sounds a bit as if there's a malfunction in the shutter button, and I wonder if a bit of rapping on that might dislodge whatever it is. If not, it sounds like repair time.
