Focus mode not highlighted

Just got the cheat sheets. They're great! So now as I'm trying to change the settings in Manual, I find that the focus setting is not highlighted and I can't find a way to work around it. ( Same goes for A,S,and P).
I'm stumped!
Hope someone can advise...

@SweetP If you're having trouble adjusting the AF modes, then either you're using Live View (LCD screen to compose and shoot) or the lens you're using has AF turned off (switch on the lens). Try going back to normal viewfinder shooting and make sure the AF switch on the lens is in the A position.
