Exposure setting (manual mode)

Exposure compensation is full, but the photos are still coming out all black.

  • In manual mode, exposure compensation does not work at all. To adjust exposure, you use the rear wheel alone to adjust shutter speed, and press the compensation button while turning the rear wheel to adjust aperture. The viewfinder will show a meter recommendation, and as you approach the correct setting the bars will approach the zero mark. You will see the shutter speed and aperture values in the viewfinder as well.

If you have Auto ISO enabled, the camera will attempt to adjust ISO to provide correct exposures at whatever your settings are. This is very convenient if you want it, but if you wish to defy the meter for creative reasons you must turn Auto ISO off.
