Mode dial just spinning

Hello, I'm a newbie to photography, and I've been gifted the D3200. The mode dial is no longer clicking onto place, it's just spinning freely. I would appreciate your help. Thank you.

    I do not know just how the dial is attached to the mechanism below, but it certainly should not spin. Does it still change modes?

    Either way, it's pretty certain something mechanical is wrong with it, and it should be fixed. I suspect it is not a very big problem, and should not be prohibitively expensive.

    If you do not have a dealer in the area, or a servicer, you might try the Nikon USA web site for service and support. I know they do service, although I have never needed it. Nikon will only service Nikon USA imports, though, not gray market even off warrantee. If it's not a US model you'll have to find someone else.
