If you want a decent zoom lens the Nikon 55-300mm is a pretty decent deal. I bought one of those for my traveling rig (D3200, kit lens and 55-300mm), and it has been very well behaved. It's moderately compact and light weight but still good and sharp, with a fair amount of reach. It's not terribly fast for indoor sports and the like, but it's good outdoors, nice for wildlife and focuses close enough for butterflies and flowers and what not.
If you don't need the extra speed for sports, and if you want to minimize bulk, take a good look at this one. Like the kit lens, this one has a fair amount of plastic in its construction. It is not as tough and sophisticated as some, but optically it's very good, and it behaves better than you might expect at the price.
You can read a review of that lens elsewhere on the site.
