Old Nikon 50mm f/1.4 manual lens

I have an old, manual focus 50mm f/1.4 AI/AI-S lens. I believe it is a fast and sharp lens that I would like to use occasionally. How do I use it in aperture priority mode? I tried setting the mode dial of my D5100 to aperture-priority (A), but an error message comes up saying the lens is either not found or not mounted.

Howdy @alc - Unfortunately it won't work in Aperture priority (A). In order to use an older "non-CPU" manual lens like the 50mm f/1.4 AI/AI-S, you'll have to shoot in Manual mode (M on the mode dial) and adjust the focus and exposure manually. Hope that makes sense. Happy shooting! :)
