Stick with the tele zoom most of the time. Switch to the 18-55mm for group shots. Remember to stop it down a bit to ensure everyone is in focus. With either lens, pay attention to the background and make sure there's nothing too distracting. The small variable aperture of those 2 lenses means you won't be able to isolate the subject with a shallow depth of field as effectively.
One more thing that I think is important. I’m assuming that you’re not the primary photographer. Stay out of the pro’s way and don’t duplicate his shots. Focus on taking candids; they’re usually more interesting to look at anyway. Don’t worry about taking formal shots, the pro will handle those.
