Continuation of numbering

Hi all,
I have just recently bought a Nikon D5100 and have been taking plenty of photos. After uploading them to my computer for viewing I delete the images from the memory card, but when I take more photos the camera starts naming them at 0001. Can anyone tell me how to get the numbering to continue from where it left off instead of resetting to 0001?

You need to go to your menu and select the pencil icon, Custom Setting Menu, and select "d", Shooting/display and click the OK button on the right side of the camera and then scroll down d4, File Number sequence, click OK or use the right arrow and select On. This will continue the file sequence numbering form where you left off. Hope this is clear enough.
