18-105mm vs 18-140mm

Hi all,

I have a Nikon D5100 and wanted to replace the 18-55mm lens (to get a bigger zoom range) with one of the following:

Nikon 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6 VR (£140 in excellent condition, second hand)
Nikon 18-140mm f/3.5-5.6 VR DX (£230 new)

Given that the 18-140mm is about £100 more expensive, is it worth the extra money, or are they so similar that it's better to go with the 18-105mm?

You can probably find a 18-105mm used for a good price or if you push your budget a bit a 16-85mm is a great dx lens!

Thanks. I did look at the 16-85mm lens, but even second hand they retail around £350+.
My budget is around £250 max. I think I'll go for the 18-105mm second hand.
