Framing Grid Problems

I have recently purchased a D3100 and have been reading the Nikon Reference manual (PDF) that came with it.

p41Live View Display Options tried to cycle through the 3 options shown using the info button, but was unable to get it to work.

I also checked the S3100 hardcopy user's manual, but found no mention of these options.

I hope someone with more tech experience knows what I am doing wrong and has solved this.
