I am going to be attending my daughters' showcase at college in the near future and was wondering what I should set my D3100 to for some good photo's of her in action (stage lighting and movement). Thanks!
Hi @maryo - In December, Landon (another member) gave some excellent advice...
1. Get as close as possible to stage/action, but just outside the direct stage lighting 2. Set the kit lens to 18mm 3. Enable Aperture priority: adjust the aperture down to f/3.5 on your kit lens 4. ISO set to 800, 1600 or 3200 5. Noise reduction set to ON 6. VR on
The shutter speed will automatically adjust to compensate for the reduce lighting. If it's slower than 1/6 it will require a stationary platform like a tripod. You can also try bracing the D3100 against something like a wall or chair etc...
Try to take your shot when the dancers are stationary in a pose as the dancer’s movements will be too fast in low light conditions. Dancers do have moves where they freeze to emphasize their next movement. Try to fine those moments to shoot your pictures. Best of luck!
