Live View on a Laptop

I've been trying to take some star photos (not star trails), and I'm wondering if it is possible to connect the camera to a laptop to use the laptop monitor as my live view. My photos of the stars are out of focus. Right now I have to take some photos, then come inside to upload to check the focus, then go back out and hope I can focus. If I could take the laptop out with me and use its monitor as my viewfinder to focus, it would be so much better. If I can't, I suppose I could take the laptop out with me and upload to the computer in the field. Thanks.
