Memory Card Error

I just bought a new 4GB SDHC memory card for my EOS rebel T2i and my camera says there is no memory card in it when there is. Is the memory card not compatible? What is happening?

    Hi,
    Obvious things first. Is it inserted properly into the camera? Have you formatted it in the camera not on a computer? Is it Class 4 or higher (class 10 is best)? Is it a known make like Sandisk, Transcend, Lexar (not all cards are created equal)?
    Does the camera fire even though the error message is shown? If not, go through the set-up menus and make "Shoot without card" enabled. Does the camera fire now? If so, suspect a dodgy card; if not, you've got a problem with the camera.
