How to Attach the Slave Flash

This may be answered, but I couldn't find anything. I purchased a Vivitar SF-4000 this week as a cheap flash to start with and can't seem to make it work. I have read the manual that came with it as well as my manual. I have contacted Vivitar, but still waiting for a response. Anyone who can help me would be great!

    I bought a Vivitar SF4000 also. I sure could use an answer too. My flash won't work on my Nikon D3100, but works everywhere else.

    P.S. Vivitar has not responded to my question either.

    I believe you have to have a hot shoe to make it work.
