Matched Multiplier on Canon Lens

edited May 2013 Posted in » General Discussion
I have a Canon 60D with a Canon 55-250mm ES with IS f/1:4-5.6 lens, and would like to know the following:

1) Can it be used with a 2x matched multiplier?
2) Would the zoom impact be 2x250 = 500?
3) Would I lose the auto focus feature?
4) How much would the light be reduced by?
5) Any negatives to making such a purchase?

    Hi,
Please see my comment on the same subject on the T2i page, but in brief:
    1) Yes
    2) No - [250x1.6] x 2 = 800. 1.6x is the crop multiplier
    3) No
    4) Between 11/2 to 2 stops
    5) Better to save for a lens with longer reach, but I would only do so if I had a specific need such as wildlife or sports photography. However, many of my friends use converters, it's just that I have never liked using them (personal preference).

    Thanks @PBked for your reply.

Typo on my part. Not sure if there would be a difference to your reply, but he camera body I have is EOS 600D and not 60D.

    Hi again
No, the answer would be the same. The 600D is basically the same camera without the additional bells and whistles of the 60D.
