Howdy @jlm86 - Everyone has a different opinion when it comes to using a UV filter for protection.
For me personally, I only use UV filters when I'm at the beach (near the ocean) or shooting something like motocross where dirt/rocks can get kicked up.
There are several types of lens protectors, such as UV filters. These UV filters can protect lenses from dust and scratches while blocking the ultraviolet light. So these UV filters are good for your precious lens and can always stick on. There are two kinds; waterproof and normal.
