Shooting in RAW but Saving as a JPEG

I have been shooting in RAW, but when I edit my pictures in photoshop they save as a jpeg file. Does this mean I am losing quality in my pictures ?

  • Howdy @tutster - There's no way to save a post-processed (edited) photo in the original RAW format. If you want to retain the highest image quality, save the edited photo as a (.PSD) inside Photoshop. Then depending on the application you're using the photo for (web gallery, 8x10 print, etc...), save the photo as a JPEG or TIFF.

If you use the free Nikon NX2 software you would be able to do quite a bit of touch up and still retain your raw image. If you just need a minor tweak you may be okay without losing the raw to Photoshop.
  • @bandaidmd - Great point! Yes, you can do basic RAW edits like white balance, saturation, etc... with the Nikon NX2 software. With Adobe Camera RAW I believe you'll have to save it in PSD, TIFF, JPEG, or DNG format. All the best!
