Why can I only photograph in black and white?

edited January 2013 Posted in » Nikon D3100 Forum
Hello all. I'm pretty new to this camera thing. Sure I've used one, but they were just point and shoot. I can only shoot in black and white in the M, A, S and P modes. Does anyone know what steps I need to take to change that?

Thanks in advance for any help. I'm sure it will be the first of many questions on my road to learning about my camera.

Sounds like you're stuck in monochrome. Monochrome is Nikon speak for black and white. Go to: Shooting Menu>Set Picture Control>Standard. That should get you back to color.
  • And if you're shooting in RAW (or RAW + JPG) you'll be able to recover the colors in the image, since RAW stores all information of the shoot.
  • Thank you very much!
