Lens Filters

I'm trying to decide among lens filters for my new camera, and I'm feeling completely overwhelmed with all the different options! Is there a difference between a digital filter and a glass filter? I know that I love the Hoya brand and it has superior ratings; I just can't decide! Also, some descriptions say Haze filter and not glass filter. Why is that? Is there even a difference? Any help would be greatly appreciated! :)
