Video Shoot with Product Close-Ups

I'm filming beauty related videos and I want to show some of the products I've collected up close so the viewers can see the color etc., without me having to get up and focus it myself. I have tried putting it on auto focus but it doesn't seem to work. I am also wanting to make my background blurry while filming so I stand out and their are no distractions (also it looks cool). I have a Canon ESO Rebel T2i.
