Christmas Lights

edited December 2012 Posted in » Canon T2i Forum
Hi! What tips or tricks can you give me on photographing Christmas lights outside at night? I have a Canon T2i and I have the lens kit 18-55mm and the 50mm lens. I also have the 250mm lens. I figured the best lens to use would be the 50mm. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks!

I would also go with the 50mm. Be careful with the indoor/outdoor temperature difference, as this could cause fog on your lens. Use a tripod, as you will need long exposures because of the relative darkness.

Try to set the iso as high as you can without ending up with too grainy of a picture. Experiment with various settings there.

As for composition, I find my best pictures to be about lights and decoration details rather than wide angle shots of a full scene.
