Playback Button While the USB Cable is Connected

I have connected my usb cable to the computer and I'm taking pictures from my camera, but I cannot see the pictures using the playback button. I have lightroom 3 and it doesn't support tethering, so someone on the computer will access my camera's sd card, import the pictures into Lightroom and print it while I keep taking pictures. The only issue is that I cannot see the picture that I have taken if the cable is connected.
