Which color background should I use?

Hi Moose,
I will be shooting folks on my white couch. I have seven foot blue and black backdrops. Which color should I use? I also have a black umbrella with silver inside to be used with my Canon 420 ex on a tripod as a slave. Thanks for all these wonderful tips.
