35mm f/1.8AF-S Lens

We recently purchased the 35mm f/1.8AF-S lens to go with our D3100. I've read a lot of great reviews on it, but I would like to know the basics of using it for recreational uses and how to get the most out of it. Also, will this lens help with videos (specifically hi-speed) or just photos when combined with the D3100? Would like to hear what others think about this lens and how they use it. Thanks.
