Monochrome or Sepia Photos

edited November 2012 Posted in » Nikon D3100 Forum
I would like to take photos in monochrome or sepia. I know I can adjust the picture after taking it for these settings, but is it possible to actually take the picture in this color format?

I'm never convinced that a PC software altered picture looks as good as one taken direct by the camera.

    Mike,
Yes you can. Hit the menu button and highlight the second tab down on your left and then it's the second option called picture control. Just set that to your desired effect and you're done.

I have followed the steps to set in monochrome or sepia, however, my camera doesn't allow me to highlight the picture control (it is grayed out). Can anyone help me?

    Thank you.

This is only available in the pro modes M,A,S or P.
Turn your dial to one of these and then press menu. Then select shooting menu which is the second tab down. Last, select picture control.

I do apologize, but I don't think sepia is an option. I'm not sure if there is a firmware update to enable this. You can make your photos sepia in the editing menu.
    Regards.

You can choose sepia only for modifying the image by selecting
menu, retouch, monochrome, sepia, choose picture, and save.
