Photos out of Focus

Hi, I wonder can anyone help. I seem to be having a problem with photos taken on my D3100 in that they lack sharpness, even when shooting in auto mode. Yesterday I took photos using the sports mode of my daughter horse back riding and every one was out of focus, even when she was not moving. I thought the camera was supposed to make the correct adjustments when shooting in these modes? I'm really frustrated.

    How long have you had the camera just out of curiosity?

    I've had it around six months. I didn't seem to have this problem initially. I'm not sure if it's something I'm doing wrong.

    You may have jogged some settings, so I would reset them just so the camera is back to default.
    Are you using the kit lens or have you upgraded?
    Personally I would not use the scene modes, but if your new to DSLR and not confident just stick with it.

    I just replied to a horse question. What you get a chance read that and see what you think; I'm not sure if any of it applies to you.
