Can't format my new memory card

I have tried to format the camera with my Lexar professional sdxc class 10 64 gb,400x speed memory card that I just bought from Amazon (even through a card reader), and it won't work. The computer keeps telling me that it can't format the card. Anybody have any ideas or the same experience?

Is there a slide on the side of the card?

Maybe it got locked?

Forget your computer. Always format your card in the camera. When you transfer your images to your computer ignore any messages Windows gives you about fixing the card; it is a load of nonsense!

PBked is absolutely correct. Never under any circumstances should you let a computer format your camera card. It should be done in camera only. I know because I ruined a 32 GB card last year this way.
