Auto Focus Issues

Last night I was shooting my first wedding (aunts). While looking at my camera I shot a practice shot and my auto focus didn't work anymore. The day before I was using it to make sure it worked. So the whole wedding I was on maunal focus. I kept trying to use auto but it wouldn't focus and when it did it wouldn't take the shot. When the wedding was almost over I tried again and it worked but it only if I would do marco photography and only sometimes. What can I do?
