Settings For Overexposed Background And Underexposed Foreground

I am shooting a large group photo with a backdrop of a mountain range with afternoon light. How do I capture the gorgeous background mountains while also getting proper exposure of people in the foreground? I am using D5100 and have a speedlight and 50mm f/1.8 prime lens.

One thing you may be able to do is use that speedlight! It will lighten up the group of people making them closer to the same exposure of the background.
