How to blur the foreground and keep the background clear

I'm new to photography and I have a few questions, but to start I want to know at what aperture do you set your camera to blur the foreground of a picture and keep the background clear?

    Howdy @Acollins - Just as an example, lets say you're trying to focus on a sunset in the distance and you want the vegetation in front of your blurred for a cool effect. Set your aperture between f/4 to f/5.6 and focus on the subject/scene in the distance. If you can, try to get as close as possible to the foreground subject. In this case, you would get within a foot or so of the vegetation and then focus on the sunset. This should blur the foreground, while keeping the scene in the distance clear. Hope that makes sense.
