How to blur the foreground and keep the background clear

I'm new to photography and I have a few questions, but to start I want to know at what aperture do you set your camera to blur the foreground of a picture and keep the background clear?

  • Howdy @Acollins - Just as an example, lets say you're trying to focus on a sunset in the distance and you want the vegetation in front of your blurred for a cool effect. Set your aperture between f/4 to f/5.6 and focus on the subject/scene in the distance. If you can, try to get as close as possible to the foreground subject. In this case, you would get within a foot or so of the vegetation and then focus on the sunset. This should blur the foreground, while keeping the scene in the distance clear. Hope that makes sense. Happy shooting! :)
