BEST lens for shooting up close babies/children

What do you think the best lens is for shooting babies & children (up close, portrait style in particular)?

Have you tired the supplied kit lens? It should do a good job. Try it at the 55mm end to get a blurred background. Otherwise, a good prime lens will work (ie 35/50mm, or a 100mm macro lens).
