What is the difference between the aperture settings of camera (T2i) and the lens if I set f/16 or f/1.4 on my manual setting but if the lens is Ef-s 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6? How does it affect the settings? Thanks.
Hi Newby, If you have the kit lens fitted then its maximum aperture is F3.5 at wide angle and F5.6 at telephoto. It does not matter if you dial in a lower F number because the lens cannot physically open any wider than it's maximum apertures. However, it is possible to dial in smaller apertures like F16 right down to F22-36 which are this lens' minimum apertures. In daylight and with your lens fitted choose AV [aperture priority] mode and rotate the command dial. You will see that the aperture will not go below F3.5 at wide angle or F5.6 at telephoto. In order to set wider apertures you need a 'faster' lens and I am sure you have seen posts on this forum mentioning lenses with apertures like F1.8 or F1.4 or even F1.2. Hope this makes sense.
