Howdy @JSchafer - Best way to go about it would be to first focus on your subject by half-pressing the shutter button (make sure your AF mode is set to One Shot). While continuing to half-press the shutter, point your T2i upwards towards the sky and press the (*) button (near the thumb rest). This will meter the sky, which will in turn underexpose your subjects giving you the silhouette effect.
Thanks Moose. Now I just need to remember how to switch my focus from the * button back to pressing the shutter button. I changed it that in order to get better focus and it worked very well. I'm working on decorating my house in rustic country cowboy decor I guess you'd call it. So, I thought some good silhouette photo's of my boys with their John Deer pedal tractor in the field would be a nice a touch.
