Nikon 55-200mm f/4-5.6g Ed be all lens

Hi moose.

I have a Nikon D5100 with af-s 18-55mm VR lens. I'm a beginner to this, and have only been using it for 1.5 years.
I didn't have a zoom lens until now. So under my budget I prefer this Nikkor 55-200mm f/4-5.6g Ed VR ll lens. Is this good enough for the beginner? Will it zoom long distance objects, and give clear sharp images?

Remember there are several versions of these lenses, which have been popular for a long time. The VRII you mention is the latest, and from all reviews better than ever, but if you're shopping from any but the most reputable vendors, make sure that you get the US import version, not the "gray market" international one if you want a useful warranty.
