Black flashing spots/areas on photos

I just purchased the D3100. Whenever I preview a picture on the LCD screen, it highlights black spots in some areas. Why is that? Is there an error in manufacturing or it's one of the functions? How do you deactivate it? Thanks!

Howdy @San - That's the highlight indicator. You can turn it off, by accessing the MENU, navigating to the Playback menu (play icon), selecting the 'Display Mode' option and adjusting it to something other than 'Highlights'. You can also press the up/down arrow while playing back images to see different views and image info. Happy shooting! :)
