AF area and focus modes

Help guys!

My AF area mode and my focus mode always appear off. When I switch to different mode dials, both modes still appear off. How can I enable both modes? Thank you in advance!

    They're enabled in P (Program priority), S (Shutter priority), A (Aperture priority), and M (Manual) modes.
