ISO Settings

edited May 2013 Posted in » Nikon D5100 Forum
Hi, I am pretty new to photography, and learning slowly but surely. There is alot of talk about ISO settings, but when I go into the ISO setting it does not let me select AUTO. I can select minimum or maximum, but not Auto. Does that mean there is another setting I need to change? It is frustrating me a little, can you help please?

After some research, am I right in saying Auto ISO is not available in non-screen modes?
  • @steved - Auto ISO is a little confusing on the D5100. You actually have to go into the (MENU) and go to ISO Sensitivity Settings and turn Auto ISO ON. Once it's enabled, then the D5100 will choose the ISO for you.

You can test this by taking a shot and then playing back the image on your camera. When viewing an image you just took, hit the UP Arrow (on the multi selector) a few times and you'll see some image details. Within these details you'll see 'ISO' and a value chosen by the camera. This will change depending on the amount of available light.

Hope that makes sense and happy shooting! :)
